Pumpkin Picking In The Midlands 2023

One cherished autumn tradition that delights young and old alike is pumpkin picking. There are lots of family farms that offer pumpkin picking in the Midlands just in time for Halloween, allowing you to hand-select the perfect pumpkin for your autumn creations. Whether you'd like larger pumpkins or mini pumpkins, these beautiful farms have lots of different varieties of pumpkin.

As well as the opportunity to pick pumpkins, some of the farms also offer carving facilities on site (so no more pumpkin mess at home), Halloween trails, maize mazes, play areas, fancy dress competitions, delicious food and drink facilities (nothing can beat a warm hot chocolate or homemade pumpkin soup on a cold, autumnal day), and much more to entertain you and your little ones this spooky season!

In this blog post, we'll take you on a virtual tour of some of the best places for pumpkin picking in the Midlands in 2023. From Severn Valley Cottage to Lower Drayton Farm, here's your ultimate guide to the Midland's pumpkin patches, complete with prices and addresses, and organised by region.

If you'd like to visit events with other Halloween activities that don't just involve pyo pumpkins, check out my Best Halloween Events in the Midlands in 2023 blog.

Just a note: All information is correct at the time of posting (10.08.2023). The Pumpkin Picking Midlands 2023 guide will be updated as more farms across the West and East Midlands announce their pumpkin picking and Halloween events and their dates and prices, so please check back regularly. Happy Pumpkin Picking!

When is the best time to go pumpkin picking?

The best time to go pumpkin picking in the Midlands is typically in the month of October. This is when pumpkins are fully ripe and ready to be harvested. However, it's always a good idea to check with local farms or pumpkin patches for specific dates and availability.

Top Tips For Pumpkin Picking

1. Stay Informed: Check the farms' Facebook pages before travelling to the farm. Sometimes during severe bad weather, farms may close. This is also a good place to check the pumpkin availability as generally the closer you visit to Halloween the fewer pumpkins there are to pick from.

2. Dress Comfortably: Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for pumpkin picking (especially Wellington boots) due to uneven and muddy fields.

3. Take Gloves: Gloves are great for picking up the stems of pumpkins as they can be prickly.

4. Take Bin Liners: Bin liners or bin bags are great for popping your pumpkins in to carry and also prevent the boot of your car from getting muddy!

5. Take Plenty of Photos: Pumpkin season provides lots of autumnal photo opportunities, so make sure to take your cameras! Why not dress in pumpkin-themed or Halloween clothing?

I hope this pumpkin-picking guide has been handy for you in finding your local pumpkin patch! Autumn is my favourite time of year, so I love creating guides like these, including pumpkin picking and general Halloween events in the Midlands.
